Professor Peter Cheung (Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of Imperial College), Andrew Tebbutt (Director of Student Recruitment and Outreach), Angela Lin (Asia Recruitment Manager) and Professor Dimitri Vvedensky from the Department of Physics gave a wonderful presentation about the recruitment of postgraduate students on October 23 at Zhejiang University.

Peter Cheung gave an introduction of a cooperation program between Zhejiang University and Imperial College in which five faculties and departments enroll ZJU students. In 2015, the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, the Department of Materials, the School of Public Health and the School of Business will recruit approximately 90 postgraduate students from ZJU. Meanwhile, ZJU students can also apply for the CSC-Imperial scholarship.

Angela Lin gave a detailed description of postgraduate studies in terms of application, qualifications, scholarships and registry. She pointed out that Imperial College recruited not only those who are passionate for scientific research, have a solid foundation professionally and are well-equipped with learning abilities, but also those who possess superb soft skills, say, leadership, communicative skills and teamwork spirits.

In the subsequent question-and-answer session, students demonstrated a striking interest. They interacted with Imperial College professors on specific issues such as majors, scholarship application and postgraduate programs. The whole presentation lasted one and a half hours.

The delegation of Imperial College also engaged in a pleasant conversation with faculty members from the Department of Information Science & Electronic Engineering. They held discussions on partnerships in the domain of microelectronics and academic seminars. They also exchanged ideas in staff recruitment and evaluation. Dimitri Vvdensky gave an introduction of the Faculty of Natural Sciences to roughly 30 teachers in physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, mathematics, materials, earth science and environment. They explored the possibility of carrying out cooperation projects in natural sciences and required conditions.

In recent years, Zhejiang university has conducted a series of partnerships with Imperial College in engineering, science, business and medicine. The progress in joint talent cultivation and research has captured immense attention both at home and abroad. Zhejiang university signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement with Imperial College in May 2013.
