The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Shanghai municipal government signed an agreement in Shanghai on June 5 to jointly construct the Shanghai Academy. Centering on national strategies and issues facing Shanghai, the new academy aims to be a high-level think tank, a base for talent training, and a platform for international cooperation and research of national conditions. Relying on institutes at CASS, Shanghai University and the Development Research Center of Shanghai municipal government, the two sides will innovate in management and improve related mechanisms and systems to facilitate the construction and development of the new academy. Speaking at the launch ceremony, CASS president Wang Weiguang called for adherence to the correct political and academic orientation, a clear goal, necessary guidelines and principles, and a pragmatic scientific spirit in building a contemporary think tank and research entity.
