Research on Chinese to contribute to general linguistics

The Institute of Linguistics at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences held the Forum of Modern Linguistics 2015 in Beijing on Dec. 5 and 6. Participants discussed hot topics in international linguistics pertaining to cognitive linguistics, biolinguistics, sociophonetics and other subdisciplines. Scholars also said domestic linguistics should adopt a global vision while retaining its grounding in a national perspective, otherwise domestic research would be unable to advance to the forefront of the discipline. In the dialogues at the forum, it was pointed out that future international theoretical linguistic studies will emphasize the synergy of general theories with concrete linguistic data. Therefore, research on data derived from the Chinese language will surely contribute to research of general linguistics, scholars said.
