Symposium: East Asian Partners Dialogue on Latin American Studies

Cohosted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies and the Shanghai Academy, a symposium titled “East Asian Partners Dialogue on Latin American Studies-Consensus and Cooperation” was held at Shanghai University from June 15 to 16.
Wu Baiyi, director of the Institute of Latin American studies at CASS, presided over the opening ceremony and delivered a speech. “East Asia and Latin America are areas where developing economies are concentrated. The amount of economic cooperation and trade between the two sides is growing along with increasingly frequent interpersonal exchanges. The cooperative dialogue between them is expected to be fruitful in the future,” Wu said. Chen Dongxiao, president of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, stressed that East Asia and Latin America should intensify cooperation in globalization and regional integration.
Delegates from Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Russia, Australia and Peru attended the symposium along with scholars from various Chinese research institutes that specialize in Latin America. They discussed the state of Latin American studies in East Asia as well as mechanisms for cross-regional cooperation.
