Argentine President Mauricio Macri called for efforts to strengthen dialogue and policy coordination with China in a speech at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) on May 16.

It has been 45 years since China and Argentina established diplomatic relations. The two countries have achieved remarkable results through unremitting efforts, Macri said. The ChinaArgentina comprehensive strategic partnership built over the past two years has permeated multiple areas, deep levels and numerous projects.

There is greater room for the two nations to complement each other in the future, Macri said, adding that stronger bilateral cooperation will further unleash the vitality of China-Argentina exchanges and drive the relationship to develop more rapidly in the new historical stage.

He noted Argentina must integrate into globalization if the country wants to develop further. The Argentine government and people should properly cope with the challenges of globalization to gain more growth opportunities, he said.

In his welcoming remarks prior to Macri’s speech, CASS President Wang Weiguang said China and Argentina face the common tasks of developing economy and improving people’s well-being. The two countries have taken identical or similar stances on major global issues.

As vital members of the G20, China and Argentina have cooperated effectively in opposing trade protectionism and safeguarding the interests of developing countries, making important contributions to improving global governance and boosting world growth, Wang said.

Wang also elaborated on the role of CASS, the premier academic institution for research on humanities and social sciences in China, as a vital channel through which research institutions and scholars of the two nations can communicate and cooperate.

Citing partnerships with Argentine research institutions and universities, Wang expressed his hope that scholars of the two sides can contribute more wisdom and power to the friendly cooperation between China and Argentina.
