At a seminar held in Beijing on March 27, nearly 50 experts and scholars from historical research and teaching institutions all over China studied the spirit of the letter sent by Chinese President Xi Jinping on Jan. 3, in which Xi, also chairman of the Central Military Commission, extended his congratulations to the establishment of the Chinese history research institute under CASS and his sincere greetings to history researchers nationwide.
Gao Xiang, vice president of CASS, member of its leading Party members’ group, and also director and secretary of the Party Committee of the Chinese history research institute, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Greatly encouraged by General Secretary Xi’s congratulatory letter, participants expressed their ideas on how to push forward the development of historical research in the new era.
Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, scholars should establish a discipline system, academic system and discourse system with distinctive Chinese style in the study of history, Gao said, adding that based on excellent, inherited traditional studies of history, it is necessary to break down disciplinary barriers and promote the integrated and innovative development of disciplines, paying particularly close attention to the impact of the new round of scientific and technological revolution on historical research. The study of history should serve socialism with Chinese characteristics. A rigorous and scientific research spirit is needed, Gao suggested.
