On March 25, CASS’s leading group on poverty alleviation convened a special meeting to study and implement the spirit of the important speech delivered by Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, at a symposium on securing a decisive victory in poverty alleviation held in Beijing on March 6. The group also redeployed CASS fixed-point poverty alleviation work in 2020 at the meeting. Xie Fuzhan, CASS president and head of the leading group on poverty alleviation made a speech.

Guided by the spirit of Xi’s important speech, we should keep abreast of any changes in the prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic and the economic situation at home and abroad. While remembering the decisive achievements made in the fight against poverty, we must also be aware of the arduous difficulties and challenges ahead. Overcoming the impact of the virus outbreak, we will coordinate and advance all of our initiatives, giving our fullest efforts to fixed-point poverty alleviation, Xie said.

Xie proposed that CASS focus its efforts on two fixed points, poverty-stricken Shangyou County and Danfeng County, and aid them through careful planning and deployment. Taking full advantage of our academic research, we will organize experts to carry out investigations and help the two counties establish a long-term mechanism for poverty alleviation, he said.
