Homegrown poverty relief strategies shared with world

The 2016 China Poverty Reduction International Forum, themed “China’s Poverty Reduction Experience Sharing Under the SDGs Framework,” was held in Beijing on May 8. At the forum, nearly a hundred officials and experts from home and abroad discussed ways to achieve poverty relief targets. The forum allows China to share its experience with the rest of the world and serves as a platform for international cooperation to eradicate poverty. Poverty relief is essential to mankind’s sustainable development, said Hong Tianyun, deputy director of the Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development of the State Council, adding that China should strengthen exchanges with Africa, Latin America and Asia to make breakthroughs in international cooperation. The forum launched the Global Poverty Reduction and Inclusive Growth Portal to share knowledge and experience on poverty reduction. Irene Bain, a social sector specialist from the Asian Development Bank Resident Mission in China, said that the flow of knowledge can greatly complement financial assistance.
