Times call for new views on African economic history

Chinese studies on African economic history tend to take a macroeconomic perspective and focus on the period after World War II, said Shu Yunguo, director of the Center for African Studies at Shanghai Normal University, at a symposium recently held in Shanghai. Scholars from South Africa, Botswana, Sweden and China explored issues concerning the studies of African economic history, such as the new trends, individual cases, the relationship between the development of Africa and the world. Scholars of African economic history should combine theory and practice to formulate responses to practical problems and demands rising from political and economic activities, said Li Anshan, a professor at the Center for African Studies at Peking University.
