It is necessary to attract the attention of experts and scholars at home and abroad, especially young scholars, to Dunhuang and the Dunhuang Caves, making the Dunhuang Academy an international platform dedicated to the protection and studies of the cultural heritage in Dunhuang, said Wang Xudong, director of the Dunhuang Academy, at the “2016 Dunhuang Summit: Convergence and Innovation-The International Symposium in Commemoration of the 1650th Anniversary of the Mogao Grottoes” held in Dunhuang, Northwest China’s Gansu Province from August 20 to 21.

Hao Chunwen, chairman of the Institute of Dunhuang and Turpan Studies of China, said that guardians and researchers of the Mogao Grottoes and Dunhuang culture should not only protect the Mogao Grottoes and other Dunhuang cultural heritage to the limits of their capacity, but also constantly deepen Dunhuang studies.

Hosted by the Dunhuang Academy, the summit was co-organized by the Institute of Dunhuang and Turpan Studies of China, Zhejiang University, Lanzhou University and Northwest Normal University and funded by China Dunhuang Grottoes Conservation Research Foundation.
