The symposium themed “Hub-type and Networked City: A Future for Guangzhou” was held by the Guangzhou Academy of Social Sciences (GZASS) from Nov. 26 to 27 in Guangzhou, southern China’s Guangdong Province. A hubtype and networked city orients itself as a transportation hub, which emphasizes its position as a center for logistics, trade, information, technology, culture and international communication, said Zhang Yueguo, party secretary of the GZASS. At the same time, the city should be networked, emphasizing its connection to the outside world, Zhang said. Zhang Guohua, president of the Academy of Urban Comprehensive Transportation Planning at the National Development and Reform Commission, said an economic blueprint of global connectivity is gradually emerging. The competition of cities in the future will actually be a competition of each city’s ability to integrate the urban industrial chain, Zhang Guohua said.
