Establishing a contemporary ecological civilization discourse system will not only help China’s national image and boost the country’s discourse power in global ecological governance, but also promote China’s international influence and soft power, said Yu Yang, secretary of the Party committee of the Academic Division of Social Sciences at Shanghai University, at the high-end forum “Ecological Civilization and Chinese Philosophy and Social Sciences Academic Discourse System Construction” held in Shanghai on June, 3.

Wu Xiaoming, chairman of the Shanghai Philosophical Society, said that establishing a contemporary ecological civilization discourse system in China would represent positive innovation, and added that it would need to absorb ideas from the following three areas: achievements in studies of ecological civilization, Marxist theories and China’s excellent traditional culture.

Fang Shinan, professor of the School of Marxism at Soochow University, said that it is necessary to fully recognize the significant value of global ecological cooperation and shared governance. The path of global ecological cooperation and shared governance should be explored and the development of global ecological democracy and ecological rule of law needs to be enhanced, in order to ensure global ecological justice and security, Fang added.

The forum was co-hosted by the Shanghai Philosophical Society, the Academic Division of Social Sciences and the Project Team of Marxist Theory Plateau Discipline Construction at Shanghai University.
