“China is expected to be one of the world’s educational centers by 2030," said Gao Shuguo, director of the Research Office of Educational Development Strategy at the National Education and Development Research Center, at the first 50-Person Forum of Global Education hosted by the Center for China and Globalization and the Institute of Chinese Finance Studies at Southwest University of Finance and Economics on Aug. 18.

According to a study by the National Education and Development Research Center, China’s per capita educational attainment measured in years is only amounted to 11.9 percent of that of the US in 1950, but it may reach 92.2 percent by 2030. In addition, about 600-700 million Chinese will surpass the average amount of education in the US because of China’s large population base. “China will become an educational power in 2030 as well as a country that is rich in human resources,” Gao said.

As for China’s future prospects, Gao suggested establishing an open educational system suited to China’s great power status, making China a leader of the world’s educational reform and development, forging the world-class modernized teaching body and comprehensively promoting the influence of Chinese educational theories and models.
