The roundtable forum “Innovation driving high-quality development” was held at Southeast University on March 15. Scholars agreed that the primary driving force for high-quality development is innovation. China's development must value the manufacturing industry and innovative talent while vigorously advocating entrepreneurship. Only in this way can China assume its place among the world's scientific and technological powers.

China's manufacturing has achieved miraculous growth in recent decades, but there are also problems such as weak technological innovative ability and low efficiency of resource utilization. The key to high-quality development lies in intelligent manufacturing. Li Lianshui, former president of Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, after comparing China’s development process of intelligent manufacturing with other countries, said that China will become an important leader in the industry globally.

Yuan Jianhong, a professor from the School of Marxism at Southeast University, said that the main factors curbing China’s corporate innovation include a shortage or outflow of talent, high innovation costs and dissymmetry of technological information. The government should forge a business environment favorable for corporate innovation, and at the same time enterprises must comprehensively intensify their innovative capability, thus jointly driving economic high-quality development, Yuan suggested.

Industrial innovation must be supported by industrial and innovative chains. Equal importance should be attached to economic and social benefits when promoting industrial innovation, said Li Xinnan, director of the Innovation Research Office at the Chinese Academy of Engineering.
