The High-Level Seminar on Development Trajectories in East Africa and the Belt and Road (B&R) Initiative was recently held in Jinhua, Zhejiang Province.

Gamal Hassan,Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development of the Federal Government of Somalia, deemed that the B&R initiative can help African countries resolve such problems as backward infrastructure. The “inclusive development” advocated by China is what African countries have lacked in the past. Africa will favor this development pattern in the future.

Gert Johannes Grobler, former acting deputy director-general of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, said that the B&R initiative will bring about new development opportunities for Africa and promote the further development of the global economic and trading system.

Zheng Mengzhuang, president of Zhejiang Normal University, said that as the China-Africa relationship deepens, researchers of Africa studies should actively respond to the B&R initiative, enhancing African academic research, the international promotion of the Chinese language, interschool exchanges and China-Africa economic and trade cooperation.

Liu Hongwu, director of the Institute of African Studies at Zhejing Normal University, said that as the B&R initiative has been implemented in African countries, the whole of East Africa has made great progress in connectivity. In the future, academia should offer ongoing intellectual support to the B&R construction in Africa.
