Promoting scientific and educational cooperation in Greater Bay Area

On Aug. 19, a forum on scientific and educational cooperation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area was held at the University of Macao.

Tan Junrong, director of the Department of Social Culture under the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) government, said that in recent years the University of Macao has continuously improved its capability in teaching and scientific and technological research, demonstrating its important status and apparent advantages on the western shore of the Guangdong-Hong KongMacao Greater Bay Area. Macao has established four State Key Laboratories and displayed a competitive edge in chip R&D, quality research in Chinese Medicines, and the implementation of the Internet of Things in smart cities. Cities on the western shore of the Greater Bay Area should closely cooperate in the fields of technological innovation and talent training. The Macao SAR government will continue to strongly support universities in the Greater Bay Area to deepen cooperation and innovation.

Song Yonghua, president of the University of Macao, said that the University of Macao has fully supported the participation of the Macao SAR government in the building of the Greater Bay Area, assisted Macao in clarifying its development position, used science and technology to contribute to Macao’s transformation into a global center for entertainment and leisure, and used talent training to support the establishment of a service platform for trade cooperation between China and Portuguesespeaking countries. Meanwhile, by integrating the scientific and technological forces of the cities on the western shore of the Greater Bay Area and leveraging technological innovation and talent training, the University of Macao is hoping to push ahead with the sustainable development of Macao and the western shore of the Greater Bay Area as well as the whole Greater Bay Area. The University of Macao will fully leverage its advantages in scientific research, make full use of regional innovation systems with high openness and connection, and proactively attract quality education and research resources, so as to rejuvenate higher education and cooperation among industries, academia and research. Moreover, it will form closer relations with governments, universities and research institutes to make full use of scientific and educational resources and deepen cooperation and innovation.
