Sponsored by the Guangdong Academy of Education, the 7th Annual South China Education Summit was recently held in Guangzhou. Scholars discussed China’s goal of realizing the modernization of education by 2035.

We must develop a modern worldclass basic education system in the new era. To achieve this goal, we should promote education modernization, improve evaluation methods and train high-quality teachers. It is also necessary to reform the mode of education and participate in international education evaluation, said Gao Shuguo, deputy secretary general of the Chinese Society of Education and a research fellow from the National Center for Education Development Research at the Ministry of Education.

Wu Ni, director of the Research Center for Education Policy at the National Institute of Education Sciences, stressed the great significance of vocational education, continuing education and higher education for rural revitalization and sustainable development.

We should actively respond to challenges brought about by the digital era, explore innovative teaching approaches, optimize the teaching ecological system and converge teaching and research, said Tang Zhenmin, president of the Guangdong Academy of Education.

Luo Wen, president of the Yunnan Academy of Education Sciences, said that new technologies represented by the internet, big data and AI are being used in teaching. This will push forward the reconstruction of education theory and the research paradigm.

Yu Haifeng, president of Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, said that cultivating first-class financial and economic talent for the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is an urgent task for the area’s universities. Importance should be attached to projects related to professional education, curricula, a personnel training system, a collaborative education mechanism, and innovation and entrepreneurship education.

Chen Jianbang, deputy secretary general of the Chinese Educators’ Association of Macau, said that the Greater Bay Area displays promising intrinsic conditions for common educational development. We should strengthen exchanges among young people in this area, provide them with employment, internship and volunteer opportunities, and encourage Hong Kong and Macau youth to join in national construction, Chen said.
