Promoting international cooperation among universities

University presidents from such countries as China, the UK, and Australia had extensive exchanges and discussions on international cooperation under the current situation, at the World University Presidents' Forum held at Shandong University on Oct 14.

Fan liming, president of Shandong University, said that international cooperation can help universities cultivate global talent, enhance scientific research and innovation, and promote mutual learning among civilizations and people-to-people exchanges. Luo Zhongxuan, a professor from Dalian University of Technology, suggested starting a new pace of cooperation between Chinese and foreign universities and pushing higher education cooperation between China and other countries to a higher level.

Duncan Maskell, president of the University of Melbourne, stressed that digital connections developed in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic has brought more possibilities to communication among international universities. Promoting global cooperation has become an important task for universities.

Pan Weida, president of Taiwan Soochow University, analyzed the weaknesses of online teaching and solutions. Higher education should attach importance to close connection between teachers and students, ponder how to provide the best education and new values, and explore further remote learning, Pan said.
