IMF releases report on Asia-Pacific economic outlook

Author  :  Zhang Sheng     Source  :        2015-05-22

The International Monetary Fund released its Spring 2015 Asia and Pacific Regional Economic Outlook report at Renmin University of China in Beijing on May 5. According to the report, the Asia-Pacific region will maintain economic growth in 2015 of 5.6 percent, easing slightly to 5.5 percent in 2016. Regional economic prospects are optimistic as the region continues to drive global economic growth, the report found, noting that Asia will benefit from a recent global drop in oil prices and the recovery of developed economies. Nevertheless, the financial volatility and sluggish progress of structural reform may hinder economic growth in Asia. Governments should therefore strengthen their ability to fight risks and increase production capacity. The report further suggested measures to increase production. For example, China has been urged to carry out reform of State-owned enterprises and financial departments, while Japan has been called on to enhance productivity of its service industry and increase its labor force participation rate.
