China’s regional security faces four challenges
Author :   Source : People's Daily Online 2016-02-19
According to China’s Regional Security Environment Review: 2016 released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences on Jan. 31, China’s regional security and the construction of the “Belt and Road” might face four challenges in 2016. First, strategic competition between major countries is likely to continue, including the rivalry between China and the US as well as that between China and Japan. Second, maritime disputes will be further complicated. Third, political changes in small neighboring countries and the adjustment of their policies toward China will also affect China to some extent. Fourth, non-traditional security threats, such as terrorism, will further increase. Correspondingly, the review suggests properly handling ties with countries along the “Belt and Road,” reasonably coordinating relations between government and enterprises, and charging the government to manage security risks.
