Software copyright registrations soar

Author  :       Source  :    Chinese Social Sciences Today     2016-05-06

Software copyright registrations rose drastically in China during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-2015), according to the Report on Chinese Software Copyright Registration recently released by Copyright Protection Center of China. China processed more than 920,000 new software copyright registrations between 2011 and 2015, which is nearly quadruple the amount filed in the previous five years combined. The number of copyright applications filed by individuals increased by a larger percentage relative to applications by corporations and research institutions. Networking software and mobile applications were the two categories that experienced the greatest growth. Yan Xiaohong, deputy general of the National Copyright Administration of PRC, said that the spread of registered software on the Internet has been tremendous and rapid, therefore the government must strictly enforce copyright laws to protect copyright owners.
