China’s online literature booms, report

The number of online literature users in China has reached 333 million, of which mobile literature users is 304 million, according to the 2016 Online Literature Report released on Feb 13. The report showed that active users on China’s largest mobile application “QQ reading” increased over 100 percent annually and its share has accounted for 31 percent of the whole market. Overall, Internet users reading literary work through mobile devices have dominated online literature. But experts also expressed their concerns of the quality and social responsibility of online literature. Online literature not only satisfies the entertainment demands of public, but does create good works with realistic and humanistic aspects, so it is vital to play to its advantages of communication to convey vivid information of the times in a positive way and hold cultural consciousness as well as social responsibility , said Xia Lie, a professor from Hangzhou Normal University.
