The steady development of Internet technology and applications was the major trend in China’s information communication industry in 2016, and mobile media is reshaping society, according to the 2017 Shanghai Media Development Report released by the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) on April 5.

Mobile communication has become a new engine for economic growth and exerts a great impact on the production, communication and consumption of information, reshaping its media ecology and pushing media integration forward into a new stage, said Qiang Ying, president of the SASS and editor-in-chief of the report.

Jiao Yuhong, another editor of the report, said that the rapid rise of short video, live streaming and instant online celebrities are hot topics of the year.
