The International Association of Scientific, Technical and Medical Publishers (STM) opened a community-wide consultation about sharing research articles on Feb. 9, according to the STM Publishing News Group.

Through scholarly collaboration networks, article-sharing sites and feedback, the consultation aims to build consensus among all publishers in these fields so that they can share academic results on a larger scale and promote the translation of the achievements into practice.

“We see this as a first step in what we hope will be an ongoing collaborative process. We want to ultimately develop practical solutions,” said Fred Dylla, project leader and executive director of the American Institute of Physics. “To do that, we need to work together with scientific collaboration networks, researchers, libraries and publishers. We hope to get expressions of interest in getting involved, support for the voluntary principles and feedback that will inform our collective path forward.”

STM would like to provide seamless sharing and easy access to journal articles to enhance scholarly collaboration. The consultation will close on April 10.
