“We should keep the knowledge of traditional medicines for our future generations by collecting, sorting and scientifically analyzing traditional medicines, so that it will contribute to the health of the humanity,” said Rudolph Bauer, president of the International Society for Ethnopharmacology (ISE), at the 16th International Congress on Ethnopharmacology held from May 15 to 18 in Yulin, South China. The ISE takes an increasingly trans-disciplinary research approach to strengthening the link between natural and social sciences. The theme of this year’s congress was “Traditional Medicine: Protection, Integration and Innovation.” About 100 ethnopharmacologists and medicine experts from more 30 countries attended the congress to discuss the protection of traditional medicine and the sustainable development of the industry.
