Abstrct: On October 25, 2013, the international academic seminar commemorating the 35th anniversary of the signing of “The China-Japan Treaty of Peace and Friendship” – “Inherit the treaty spirit and build the new relationship” – was held in Beijing. Delegates made positive comments on the historical significance of the treaty, and regarded it as political foundation to further strengthen the bilateral relationship. The treaty aims not only to acknowledge history and end the past, but also to embrace the future and set up long-term friendship. In recent years, the strong theme of "security" and "defense" in Japan's China policy has been the root cause of difficulty to establish friendly relations between China and Japan. The current Sino-Japanese relationship faces great challenges, and we should better stick to, inherit and carry forward the principle and spirit of the treaty. On this basis, the two countries should construct the new relationship which can promote healthy development. To achieve it, two countries are expected to collaborate with each other and move forward.
