Country's foreign aid a model of South-South mutual assistance

Author  :       Source  :    China Daily     2022-08-22

Over the past more than 70 years, China's foreign aid, in the form of material assistance, technological cooperation and personnel support, has benefited more than 160 developing countries.

In all, more than 400,000 people have received technical training provided by China, and many of them have played important roles in their respective fields.

Infrastructure, ranging from railways and bridges to hospitals and schools, are testimony to China's contribution to common development, which has not ceased even though its own economic development faces tremendous challenges.

China's foreign aid is focused on promoting development and it has never had any political strings attached. It not only actively promotes the economic development of the recipient countries and the improvement of people's livelihoods, but also creates a good external environment for China's development and becomes an important path to promote trade and investment and deepen practical cooperation, which guarantees its sustainability.

China is not only giving fish to the less-developed countries, but more importantly teaching them how to fish. Aligning with the national conditions and aspirations of the developing countries, China selflessly shares its experience that meets the needs of recipient countries. Its experience in poverty reduction and anti-corruption has won recognition and support from more and more developing countries.

China's foreign aid has made irreplaceable contributions to the implementation of the Global Development Initiative and the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. To ease the food shortage in many countries, China has recently provided emergency humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, Tonga, Ukraine and other countries, and emergency food aid to more than 30 Asian, African and Latin American countries.

At the same time, China has also received tremendous assistance from other countries in natural disaster rescue and relief, prevention and control of epidemic diseases and socioeconomic development. That shows the essence of building a community with a shared future for mankind, which should not be an arena for geopolitical games, but a platform for multinational cooperation for the common development.
