Delegates to the Conference of Presidents of Supreme Courts of China and Central and Eastern European Countries, held from May 4 to 5 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, reached a consensus to increase judicial transparency and safeguard justice in their respective countries. The theme for this year’s conference was “The Judiciary in the Global Information Age.” The joint statement pointed out that fairness and justice are the common ideas honored and followed by the judiciaries of all countries. China and Central and Eastern European countries should strengthen judicial exchanges and cooperation. In particular, the statement suggested that both sides follow the information trends and encourage the application of information technology in courts to enhance judicial efficiency. Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated the conference, saying that the “Belt and Road” connects China and Central and Eastern European countries closely together. He said he hopes that both sides will join hands to maintain an orderly judicial environment that provides legal support for and guarantees of common development.
