Jurists explore law’s role in fighting climate change

The judicial system’s role in addressing climate change was the focus of a symposium held in Beijing on June 13. Specialists from China, the European Union, Australia and the United States debated judicial theory and practice as it relates to climate change and carbon trading. The Supreme People’s Court of China (SPC) strengthened its role in environmental protection by establishing an Adjudication Tribunal for Environment and Resources in 2014, said Jiang Bixin, vice-president of the SPC. Judicial systems from around the world have valuable experience addressing climate change that needs to be utilized in practical cooperation, Jiang said.
