On Sept. 7, Gao Xiang, president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group at CASS, met in Beijing with a delegation led by Nguyen Xuan Thang, chairman of the Central Theoretical Council of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). Li Xuesong, vice president of CASS and a member of the Leading Party Members’ Group at CASS, attended the meeting.

Gao pointed out that China and Vietnam are both socialist countries bound by the profound friendship of “comrades and brothers.” Under the strategic guidance of General Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Xi Jinping and General Secretary of the CPV Central Committee To Lam, China–Vietnam relations have maintained sound momentum and are at one of the strongest points in their history.

Since the 18th CPC National Congress, Gao continued, the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core has united and led the Chinese people of all ethnic groups in advancing and expanding Chinese modernization, achieving historic progress in the development of socialism with Chinese characteristics. History and practice have fully demonstrated that the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is advancing with powerful momentum, with brighter prospects than ever before. Under the leadership of the CPV, Vietnam has also made considerable progress in economic and social development.

Gao added that the successes of China and Vietnam fully demonstrate the tremendous strengths of the socialist system and affirm the validity of the socialist path. Throughout human history, every transition between social formations has been difficult and uneven, and no new social formation has developed without setbacks. In the long run, however, socialism will prevail, and the liberation of all humanity will ultimately be achieved.

Gao stated that CASS has long maintained friendly ties and close exchanges with Vietnam’s theoretical and academic communities. It stands ready to further strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Vietnamese side, share experiences in socialist development and governance by communist parties, jointly study the underlying logic and laws of human social development, and explore the future of humanity and the evolution of social formations, particularly the new opportunities and challenges arising from the current round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, exemplified by artificial intelligence. Such efforts, he added, will contribute intellectual support to the development of relations between the two parties and countries, the advancement of the global socialist cause, and the overall progress of humanity.

Nguyen noted that the CPV is now advancing toward its centenary goal. The CPC’s successful experience in advancing Chinese modernization provides important inspiration for Vietnam. He added that the Central Theoretical Council of the CPV will closely study and draw on the CPC’s experience in governance, while strengthening theoretical exchanges and academic cooperation with CASS to better promote the common development and prosperity of the two countries.

Present at the meeting were representatives from the International Department of the CPC Central Committee and the Vietnamese Embassy in China, as well as heads of relevant departments at CASS.
