Chinese poetry project launched in Beijing

Author  :       Source  :    Chinanews.com     2014-05-06

Submissions are being collected for a new Chinese poetry project launched in Beijing on May 4, 2014. The project, which will culminate with the publishing of a book, is co-organized by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Publishing Corporation and the Chinese Poetry Long March Organization Committee.

Jidi Majia, director of the Chinese Poetry Long March Organization Committee, told reporters at a press conference launching the project that Chinese poetry was born during the May Fourth Movement when Hu Shi’s poems were published in New Youth in 1917. The centenary of this milestone will be celebrated in 2017.

The project celebrates modern and classic Chinese poems, schools of poetry and related events over the past century, said Jidi Majia. The project’s book will be divided into 10 volumes, including some dedicated to contributions from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan poets. Some volumes will be single, while others will be divided into two or three sections. The total project is slated to finish by the end of 2018.
