Author :  Li Yu Source : Chinese Social Sciences Today 2014-11-27
The Report on Metropolitanization Advance in China 2014 was released in Shanghai on November 9. The report found that academic research and discussion of metropolitanization has increased with a multi-disciplinary and multi-dimensional trend. The report reviewed key issues in China’s metropolitanization in 2014, including development models, transformational development, development and construction, space management, cultural construction and modes of life. Liu Shilin, chief expert of the Institute of Urban Science in Shanghai Jiao Tong University said new trends in metropolitanization were spread from large cities to mid-sized cities, and these issues have no essential differences in cities of different sizes. Liu proposed exploring solutions to these issues within an “urban agglomeration” framework.
The Chinese version appeared in Chinese Social Sciences Today, No. 668, November 17, 2014.
