New cultural soft power center to promote discourse

The Collaborative Innovation Center for Studies of National Cultural Soft Power opened in Beijing on May 6. Scholars, experts and personnel from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Hunan University and 17 other universities and organizations affiliated with the center attended its opening ceremony. The center aims to enhance the capacity of its members in cultural soft power research by deepening communication and becoming a leading global center for cultural soft power research. Zhang Guozuo, the center’s director, said 12 research platforms will be established to provide a theoretical framework for cultural soft power with Chinese characteristics. The center aims to spread Chinese traditional culture and consolidate China’s image, international communication, discourse power, think-tank construction and appraisal mechanisms.
