Co-sponsored by the Chinese Academy of History at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and the Russian Historical Association, the webinar on Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the Victory of the Great Patriotic War and the World Anti-Fascist War was simultaneously held in Beijing and Moscow on May 7. Xie Fuzhan, president of CASS; Gao Xiang, vice president of CASS and dean of the Chinese Academy of History; Zhang Hanhui, Chinese ambassador to Russia; Sergei Naryshkin, chairman of Russian Historical Association; Andrei Denisov, Russian ambassador to China; and Anatoly Torkunov, rector of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, attended the conference and delivered speeches by video.

Xie said that commemorating the victory of the Great Patriotic War and the World Anti-Fascist War aims to prevent the repetition of historical tragedies and also to preserve the conscience and justice of mankind. China and Russia should join hands to safeguard the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War and promote world peace and prosperity. At present, the COVID-19 pandemic is posing a huge threat to the lives and health of people all over the world and has brought about great challenges to global public health security. Both sides should intensify collaboration and push forward multilateral coordination to win the fight against the virus, Xie said.

Experts and scholars in history from China and Russia held online in-depth discussions and dialogues on such issues as the historical significance of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War, important contributions the Great Patriotic War made to the World Anti-Fascist War, the importance of maintaining the postwar international order, and deepening China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership in the new era.
