University opens research center for institutional studies

China University of Political Science and Law opened China’s first research center on studies of institutions in Beijing on April 12. The center will focus on studies of institutions for rule of law, theories pertaining to institutions and construction of systems of institutions. Serving as an open research platform to provide intellectual support for modern governance, the center will also probe into the building of a discipline to boost educational progress in this field. Li Shuzhong, the university’s vice president and center director, said at the center’s opening ceremony that institutions and related studies should have independence under the premise of complying with law. He envisaged the prospect of building a discipline for institutional studies and the application of this discipline, calling for experts and scholars to make contributions to this end.
