China-Japan ties need multilateral perspective

Author  :       Source  :    Chinese Social Sciences Today     2016-02-01

In a globalized world, China and Japan’s relations have gone beyond the bilateral level, and now the two sides are interacting and interconnecting with each other at multilateral levels. Therefore, China-Japan relations should be considered from a multilateral perspective, said scholars from both countries at an international symposium held by the Institute of Japanese Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. To handle the relationship, both sides should develop a new thinking pattern and explore new areas for cooperation, including climate change, technology and cooperation in African countries. “One important choice is to cooperate in the market of other countries,” said Gao Lan, associate dean of the Institute of International and Public Affairs at Tongji University.
