Cultural tourism becomes an engine industry

The 2019 China’s Tourism Development Report was recently released in Wuhan, Hubei Province. The report indicates that the cultural tourism industry has attracted cross-border investment of government investment and financing platforms, private enterprises, and non-tourism enterprises and that it has become a hot spot for social investment and an engine industry powering comprehensive development.

According to the report, in terms of domestic contribution, China's tourism industry generated a total tourism revenue of 5.97 trillion yuan in 2018, up 10.5% year on year. Its comprehensive contribution to GDP was 9.94 trillion yuan, accounting for 11.04% of GDP. The comprehensive contribution of China's tourism industry to global GDP reached up to 10.36 trillion yuan in 2018, ranking second in the world, with a year-on-year growth of 7.3%. The number of jobs contributed by tourism increased by 10,000 over the previous year to reach 79.91 million, ranking first in the world.
