Tourism development heads towards standardization

Author  :  Wang Chunyan     Source  :    Chinese Social Sciences Today     2020-05-07

On April 21, China Tourism Green Book: Analysis and Forecast of Tourism Development in China (2019–2020) was released online by the National Academy of Economic Strategy at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and Social Sciences Academic Press (China).

The Green Book indicates that in 2019, China's comprehensively deepening reform accelerated, bringing a series of positive factors fully into play. This has created a good environment for tourism development. Meanwhile, tourism has served and been deeply integrated into the overall situation of national development. It has played an important part in deepening reform and widening opening up while also supporting rural revitalization and targeted poverty alleviation. The green development of tourism has become an important part of ecological civilization construction. In the new era, tourism system construction should be strengthened. It is necessary to push forward the integrated development of culture and tourism. Problems that restrict the high-quality development of tourism, such as inbound tourism, scenic spot construction and tourism investment, should be resolved.

The Green Book analyzes the current and future development of China's tourism industry amid the COVID-19 pandemic, from such perspectives as impact assessment, coping strategy, industrial organizations and listed tourism companies. Song Rui, director of the Tourism Research center at CASS, said that we should rationally deal with the market rebound after the pandemic, promote high-quality tourism development and a new round of reform and opening up, more closely guide the tourism market using optimized policy, and lead the tourism employment market towards stable and standardized development.
