On Dec. 3, the States’ National Participation index of Global Governance 2021 Report was released by the Institute of Political Science at East China University of Political Science and Law and the Academy of contemporary China and World Studies at the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration. With the theme of “Dynamic of Global Governance in the Pandemic Crisis,” the report reveals the deep impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on global governance.
The report indicates that over the past nearly two years, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound influence on future global governance in all areas, far beyond the field of global health governance. Currently, the trend of major power dominance over global governance mechanisms has not changed. It is hard to form an effective synergy in global cooperative response to the pandemic, due to stagnant global governance mechanism reform. However, under the Chinese concept of building a community with a shared future for mankind, China has gradually proposed reform plans for global governance mechanisms and within each specific field in the post-pandemic era, providing knowledge from Chinese experience to the world.
Gao Qiqi, director of the Institute of Political Science at East China University of Political Science and Law, said that in follow-up research, we should focus on value factors behind global governance from the perspective of mankind’s common values, push forward dialogue and exchange among specific value ideas, facilitate the construction of a community of a shared future for mankind and innovation of basic global governance theories, and promote China’s international discourse power in the field of global governance.
