Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, China and Latin American countries have learned mutually from each other in the course of exploring construction, reform and development. It is of great significance to review cultural exchange and cooperation between China and Latin America, share more experience for development, and consider further cooperation. From Sep. 21 to 22, the Third Seminar on “China and LAC: Dialogue Between Civilizations” was held in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province.

Zhou Ruguang, president of Jiangsu Normal University, said that Latin America is an indispensable participant in the Belt and Road (B&R) initiative. The seminar and the dialogue between civilizations are key to promote cooperation between China and Latin America, advance mutual learning, and support the building of a community of shared future for Chinese and Latin Americans. The seminar serves not only as an opportunity for scholars in education and the humanities to communicate their thoughts under the B&R framework, but also as a huge academic event to establish platforms, enhance friendship and promote communication. The seminar will contribute to theoretical development and exert a profound influence on the building of the B&R initiative and China and LAC cultural exchange.

Lu Cairong, deputy director of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, said that China and LAC have reached a broad consensus on global governance, addressing international and regional major issues and the formation of a fairer and more reasonable international order. They have also supported each other on major issues related to their core interests and concerns. The China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration is leading China’s international communication and publishing industry. Through cooperation with international counterparts in terms of books, journals, websites and translations, the administration has contributed to laying a solid foundation for promoting China and LAC communication and cultural exchange.

Alejandro Patrón Costas, vice president of the Catholic University of Salta of Argentina, said that Chinese and Latin American civilizations have much in common, which has become a solid foundation to strengthen bilateral relations. Since Xuzhou and Salta became sister cities in October 2018, the Catholic University of Salta of Argentina has established relations with educational circles and academia in China. The two cities have carried out several cooperative activities such as mutual visits among leaders and friendly exchanges among school delegations in less than a year. He expected more bilateral communication and collaboration to come.

Miguel Riquelme, governor of Coahuila, Mexico, said that his people have profound respect for Asian countries, especially China’s culture and technological progress. China has overcome many challenges and benefited people with its achievements, which has set an excellent example for other countries. He added that they will take actions to push ahead with cooperative initiatives in the fields of industry, trade, academic research and tourism that are closely related to future development, in a bid to deepen cooperation with mutual benefit and achieve common prosperity.
